An Under-19 representative for Australia, Renshaw burst onto the domestic scene in December 2015 when struck an epic 170 against a strong NSW attack to become the youngest first-class century maker for Queensland. Born in Yorkshire, he was a family friend of England batter Joe Root as a youngster.

After his mammoth breakout innings, Renshaw finished his maiden Sheffield Shield campaign as Queensland's leading Shield run scorer with 738 at 43.41 in 2015-16. 

In 2017, Renshaw became the first Australian cricketer to make 500 Test runs before turning 21 years old which included a memorable 184 against Pakistan in Sydney. 

However, following his dream start a difficult six Tests in Asia (four in India, two in Bangladesh) and a barren start to the following Shield season saw Renshaw left out of the Aussie team for the 2017-18 Ashes series, with Cameron Bancroft preferred. 

Ironically, it was Renshaw who was called up to replace the suspended Bancroft during the ill-fated tour of South Africa in early 2018. 

A couple of lean seasons saw Renshaw move to the middle order, where he flourished during the Covid-affected 2020-21 summer, scoring 500 Shield runs at an average of 62.50. His one-day and T20 form also improved following his positional shift. 

A strong county campaign with Somerset in 2022 followed and ahead of the 2022-23 New Year's Test against South Africa, Renshaw was recalled to the Australian XI. 

The tall left-hander also played two Tests on Australia's unsuccessful tour to India in 2023. 

Two centuries for Australia A as opener saw him return to the top of the order for the 2023-24 Marsh Sheffield Shield season and 2024 County Championship season.
