All-rounder
Cameron Green had no shortage of hype to live up to in the early stages of his career having been touted as an international-calibre player since his early teens.
The towering allrounder, who stands nearly two metres tall, burst onto the first-class scene as a 17-year-old in February 2017 when he took a five-wicket haul against Tasmania in his first Sheffield Shield appearance with Western Australia.
His first 30 first-class wickets came at an average of just 22.53 but as stress fractures in his back limited his bowling in the ensuing years, it was the strides he made with the bat that vaulted him into national calculations.
Green's breakout game came in November 2019 when he hit unbeaten scores of 87 and 121 from No.8 and 9 against Queensland, which saw him promoted up the WA order and subsequently flourish as a top-order player with two more centuries in the season, before 197 off 438 against NSW in October 2020.
A mainstay in WA's top four and having resumed bowling following months of remedial work on his action, he earned a call-up to Australia's limited-overs squads in late 2020, making his ODI and Test debut that summer against India.
He passed fifty in five of his first six series, took a maiden five-wicket haul at the MCG against South Africa in the 2022 Boxing Day Test, and hit his first Test century against India in Ahmedabad in March 2023, all while building a stunning highlight reel of remarkable catches in the gully.
Opening the batting on a T20I tour of India in September 2022 proved life-changing, flaying a pair of impressive fifties that led to him being bought for a then-record A$3.15million by Mumbai Indians in that year's IPL auction, and rewarded his purchasers with a 47-ball century that elevated them into the playoffs.
A hamstring issue in the 2023 Ashes saw him lose his spot to fellow WA allrounder Mitch Marsh but, so eager were selectors to get him back into the side, Steve Smith was moved up to open the batting in the wake of David Warner's Test retirement to accommodate Green at No. 4. He struck a masterful unbeaten 174 not out in his new role against New Zealand in Wellington in February 2024.
