Player Story
The son of former Test quick Craig and brother of state paceman Alister, Ben McDermott made his Big Bash League debut in the 2013-14 season for Brisbane Heat, scoring 30 in his first match against Adelaide Strikers. His Sheffield Shield debut however, was one to forget; he made scores of 0 and 2 and was the second wicket in Chadd Sayers's hat-trick at Adelaide Oval.
Following a short stint with Melbourne Renegades in BBL|05, McDermott rose to prominence in BBL|06 with a match-winning 114 off 52 balls against the 'Gades, and would hit his maiden first-class century (for his new side Tasmania) in the same season.
McDermott was given a run in the Australia T20 and ODI sides as a result, struggling initially to find his feet in the T20s but scoring an ODI century in Pakistan in 2022.
He needs 160 runs in KFC BBL|14 to become the Hobart Hurricanes' all-time leading run-scorer and he is the only player in the history of the competition with three centuries to his name.
Ahead of the 2023-24 summer, McDermott returned to his native Queensland, finishing as the Bulls' leading run-scorer in the Marsh One-Day Cup.
