Player Story

A veteran of the Pakistan team, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will be Shahid Afridi’s farewell to one-day cricket, with the allrounder announcing he will retire after the tournament.

Afridi, known for his aggressive batting and leg-spin bowling, has been delighting cricket fans around the world since making his one-day international debut in 1996.

With more than 385 ODI caps to his name, Afridi at one point held the record for the fastest one-day century – scored off 37 balls in his first ODI innings – before the title was taken by Corey Anderson.

Equally damaging with the ball, Afridi has taken more than 390 one-day wickets including career-best figures of 7-12 – a stunning haul captured against West Indies in mid-2013.

Afridi is no stranger to the ICC Cricket World Cup, having played in the 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011 tournaments.

His best World Cup performance was against Kenya in 2011 when he took 5-16.

Afridi retired from Test cricket in 2006 to concentrate on his limited overs game, but made a one-off return in 2010. His Test cricket record includes 27 matches, 1716 runs and 48 wickets.
