Player Story

Allrounder Ashleigh Gardner is forging a reputation as one of the world's best, with the Muruwari woman now a two-time Belinda Clark Award winner after being named Australia's best female international player in 2021-22 and 2023-24.

Gardner made her T20I debut in February 2017 against New Zealand, and her ODI debut followed against the same opposition soon after.

In 2019, she was handed her Baggy Green by fellow First Nations player Dan Christian, becoming the third Indigenous player, and second woman, to play a Test for Australia.

Gardner was quick to impress right from the start of her playing days, topping the runs tally at Cricket Australia’s Under-18 Championships in January 2015 and leading New South Wales to the title, also rightfully claiming Player of the Championship.

She won Player of the Tournament at Imparja Cup 2015, and represented Australia's development squad the Shooting Stars before her feats with bat and ball in hand for the Sydney Sixers saw the national selectors come calling.

A three-time T20 World Cup and one-time ODI World Cup winner with Australia, Gardner's powerful batting and crafty off-spin has made her a key member across all formats.

In 2023, she produced the best Test haul by an Australian woman, capturing 12-165 against England at Nottingham.

Off-field, Gardner is a powerful advocate for First Nations people and culture, and in 2020 launched the Ashleigh Gardner Foundation which aims to provide a healthy start to the school day for Aboriginal children.
