A talented junior, Queenslander Mitch Swepson's first taste of professional cricket came for the now-defunct Cricket Australia XI during the 2015-16 Matador Cup.

And later that same season he made his first-class (for Cricket Australia XI) and Sheffield Shield (for Queensland) debuts as the Bulls came the 22-year-old a decent crack at domestic cricket.

He was then selector for, and impressed for, Australia A in fixtures against South Africa A and India A in 2016, proving he could be ready to make the step up sooner rather than later.

Swepson was called up to the Australian Test squad in Bangladesh in August 2017, replacing the injured Mitch Starc.

Less than a year later the leggie would make his T20 International debut, taking the wickets of Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan in a loss to England.

Swepson really hit his straps during the Sheffield Shield 'bubble' in the 2020-21 summer, taking 34 wickets at 26.82 apiece.

During Australia's return to Pakistan in 2022, Swepson was presented with Baggy Green No.464 by state teammate Usman Khawaja, playing in the final two Tests of the series. He would make his ODI debut later on the tour.

He was then picked to partner Nathan Lyon in the Test series in Sri Lanka that followed, taking eight wickets at 24 on spin-friendly decks.

Swepson was a crucial part of Brisbane Heat's title-winning side in KFC BBL|13, taking 10 wickets and conceding only 6.99 runs per over.
