A talented junior tennis player, Peter Handscomb opted for a cricket career and debuted for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield in October 2011, scoring a patient 71 at the Gabba.

After making his maiden first-class century against South Australia in early 2012, he was handed a full contract with both the Bushrangers and Melbourne Stars for the 2012-13 season and took over the wicketkeeping gloves after Matthew Wade was called into Australia’s Test squad.

Handscomb’s early career highlight undoubtedly came in BBL|04, with a breathtaking century for the Stars against the Scorchers.

Following a prolific stint on the state scene, Handscomb made his Test debut against South Africa in Adelaide in 2016 with a half-century, while his maiden Test century came in his second match against Pakistan.

Handscomb’s ODI career began in early 2017, with his standout performance being his debut century which helped Australia chase down a mammoth 359 against India in Mohali.

He became a staple of the ODI side, playing 13 consecutive matches heading into the 2019 World Cup, but would lose his spot to the returning David Warner and Steve Smith. He played int the semi-final in place of the injured Osman Khawaja.

What followed was four years in the international wildness, all the while captaining Victoria and continuing to churn out the runs on at domestic level.

The right hander returned to the Test side and played all four Tests on the tour to India in 2023.
