Jodie Fields grew up in Queensland playing boy's and men's cricket at school before playing women's cricket while at university. 

She made her Queensland debut in 2000 and captained the side from the 2008-09 season for six years. 

Her international debut came in a Test against India in Adelaide in February 2006. She was appointed captain of the side in 2009, replacing the renowned Karen Rolton.

Her first game as the captain of the national side was a T20I against England in Derby on 25 June, 2009 where she became the first Queensland woman to captain Australia. 

In her first Test match as captain, against England in July 2009, she made her maiden Test century, rescusing her team with 139 after they had slumped to 5-28. The match was eventually drawn after rain on the final day. 

Fields tore her hamstring off the bone while batting in a domestic match in 2010, then slipped on wet concrete in a freak accident that put back her recovery and ruled her out of the T20 World Cup, which the Aussies went on to win without her. Spurred on to make a comeback the next year, she went on to lead the team to a second successive T20 World Cup title in 2012 in Sri Lanka. 

Fields was also at the helm of the Australian side that won the ODI World Cup in India less than six months later in February 2013. 

She retired from the international game in 2014.
