Player Story
Long before opening batswoman Laura Wolvaardt impressed everyone on the global stage, she was selected in the Western Province U-19 girls' team when she was just 11 years old. Within two years, she made it to their senior side.
Wolvaardt made her ODI debut in early 2016 against England. Just four months later, the then 17-year-old became the youngest South African, male or female, to register an ODI ton, going onto post a match-winning 105 against Ireland.
The multi-faceted cricketer was left with a dilemma after gaining admission to medical school, but ultimately chose cricket and confirmed her reputation as one of the game's most talented and stylish batters.
Wolvaardt took on the SA captaincy in 2023.
She started her Big Bash career with the Heat before moving to the Strikers in 2020, where she became a fan favourite and helped cement their back-to-back title wins.
