Player Story
A run-scoring machine in first-class cricket for 15 years, Chris Rogers seemed destined to end his career as a one-Test wonder.
The left-hander had peeled off hundreds for fun in Sheffield Shield and English county cricket for years, but moved into the twilight of his career with just a sole Test, against India in 2008, to his name.
But a weight of runs finally proved too much for selectors to resist and in 2013, the 36-year-old finally achieved his dream of becoming an Ashes tourist.
A maiden Test century followed four matches later and he peeled off another two hundreds in Australia’s Ashes whitewash just months later.
His back-to-the-wall innings of 107 against a rampant Dale Steyn in Port Elizabeth in 2014 again proved his worth, while his ‘odd couple’ partnership with David Warner continued to blossom.
