Player Story
England-born but WA-bred, Josh Inglis made his first-class debut for the Cricket Australia XI in 2015 in a tour match against West Indies.
The versatile wicketkeeper-batter was rewarded with a Western Australia contract at the beginning of the 2016-17 season, but it wasn't until the 2019-20 summer that Inglis started to really make his mark.
That Big Bash campaign the right-hander finished with 405 runs (just 20 runs behind Scorchers leading run-scorer Liam Livingstone), including four half-centuries.
The next year, in BBL|10, he exceeded the 400-run barrier again and followed up with some impressive performances for London Spirit in the inaugural season of The Hundred.
By this stage, Inglis was firmly in the eyes of the Australian selectors and in February 2022 he made his international debut in a home T20 against Sri Lanka before an ODI debut – this time away to Sri Lanka – followed in June of the same year.
At the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, for which Inglis was selected as the squad's reserve keeper, he replaced Alex Carey in the XI after one match and held his spot until the victorious final in Ahmedabad.
During Australia's tour of the United Kingdom in 2024, Inglis set a new Australian record with a 43-ball T20 century against Scotland.
He became Australia's 30th ODI captain, and the 14th in T20 internationals, when named to lead in home series against Pakistan in 2024-25, while his hot form also earned him a maiden call up to the Test squad as a specialist batter for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
