An aggressive top-order batsman, Daniel Hughes forced his way into the NSW Blues side on sheer weight of runs, which included a Futures League triple century against Tasmania at Coffs Harbour.
After debuting in 2012, Hughes managed only two Sheffield Shield matches in his first three seasons in the system, before establishing himself in the 2015-16 summer.
The runs flowed from 2017 onwards, between 2017-18 and 2019-20 only Victoria’s Marcus Harris scored more runs in the Shield, while Hughes claimed two Steve Waugh Medals as NSW’s best men’s player.
The left hander has also built one of the best one-day records in Australian domestic history, with a stunning average (59.06) and an absurd innings-per-century ratio (standing at one hundred every four innings, following the 2023-24 season).
As a 35-year-old, Hughes got his first taste of county cricket in 2024 and was an instant success with Sussex, finishing the T20 Blast group stages as the competition's leading run-scorer.
