Perth cleared to host early BBL matches

Cricket Australia has confirmed the Perth Scorchers will host at least two BBL games at Optus Stadium during the 2021-22 summer

Cricket Australia has locked in two early KFC BBL matches at Optus Stadium, but the Perth Scorchers will be forced to play at least one 'home' game in Sydney.

Western Australia's strict border rules have cast doubt on this summer's fifth men's Vodafone Ashes Test and BBL games being staged in Perth.

But CA is increasingly confident it will find a way for the series finale between Australia and England to remain in Perth, while on Tuesday it delivered a breakthrough with its BBL|11 fixture.

The Scorchers will start their season at Optus Stadium, against the Brisbane Heat on December 8, and host the Hobart Hurricanes on December 20.

Both games will be played under strict quarantine conditions.

But the Scorchers' match against the Adelaide Strikers on December 11 has been shifted to the Sydney Showground Stadium, home of the Sydney Thunder, which CA says is the only suitable venue available for the match.

The Scorchers-Strikers contest will start at the 9.30pm AEDT, the same time it would have started if the match remained in Perth, ensuring broadcasters are not denied a Saturday night double-header.

"We understand Scorchers fans will be disappointed with the need to move the December 11 match out of Perth," BBL boss Alistair Dobson said.

"The league is committed to taking as many home Scorchers matches to Optus Stadium as possible and we look forward to providing further positive updates in the coming weeks."

CA, forced to shift the Perth-Adelaide game because the Strikers will have visited Victoria before that clash, is still trying to map out a plan for Perth's home games on December 26, December 30, January 5 and January 6.

Optus Stadium will play host to the Weber WBBL Final on Saturday night, after the the Scorchers advanced straight through following their top-placed finish.

They'll play the winner of the Challenger final, which sees the second-placed Melbourne Renegades play the victor of the Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat clash.

Those two sides will kick off the WBBL Finals on Wednesday night in the Eliminator final.

Adelaide Oval will host this match, as well as the Challenger, with the victor from the Adelaide-Brisbane game backing up the following evening against the Renegades, for a place in the Final.
