Bulls move into dominant position over Warriors

Western Australia are battling to avoid defeat against Queensland after Shaun Marsh fell cheaply amid a top-order collapse in their Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba.

At stumps on day three, the visitors were 4-39 in their second innings, still 40 runs behind the hosts after ex-Test batsman Marsh fell for eight.

The stage had been set for Marsh to again make selectors sit up and take notice after his first innings heroics of 77.

However, young gun Xavier Bartlett (2-13) had other ideas, snaring Marsh caught behind just ahead of stumps to put the hosts in the box seat.

Marsh, whose last Test was the SCG New Year's clash against India, appeared unhappy with the decision, lingering at the crease before making his way towards the pavilion.

At the other end, veteran quick Cameron Gannon bowled 12 overs unchanged for the remarkable figures of 2-10, which included the wickets of Sam Whiteman and Marcus Stoinis in consecutive deliveries.

Earlier Queensland were bowled out for 411 with a first-innings lead of 79 after a fighting century by Bryce Street.

Last minute replacement Street struck his maiden Shield ton, stroking 115 in a stellar 308-ball knock that featured 16 boundaries.

"It's pretty surreal to be honest. It's kind of pinch me I'm dreaming," Street said.

"But I do have to remind myself that I am here as an injury replacement - I might miss the next game for all I know."

Allrounder Jack Wildermuth also impressed with 80, before falling to a long hop from part-timer Cameron Bancroft.

Queensland's Test hopeful Usman Khawaja didn't push his Test claims when he was caught behind for 32, while Marnus Labuschagne went for a 10-ball duck.

Queensland resumed their first innings on Monday at 1-167 and Khawaja added just two runs to his overnight total before being caught behind off the bowling of allrounder Stoinis (3-50).

And when Labuschagne was trapped in front by Stoinis, the Bulls were 3-173.

But Street made the most of his late call-up for the Shield match after ex-Test opener Matthew Renshaw pulled out with a stomach bug that left him in hospital on a drip last Friday night.

It was an impressive innings by Street after the Bulls lost their strike weapons early.

While Labuschagne appears a certainty for Australia's first Test against Pakistan starting in Brisbane on November 21, Khawaja looks set to be among a host of players sweating on selection.

He has scored 59 runs at 11.80 this Shield season in a frustrating first-class return since being dumped for the fourth Ashes Test in August.

WA were bowled out for 332 on Sunday, recovering from 2-2 thanks to Marsh's fighting half-century and a wagging tail that added 162 for the final three wickets led by allrounder Cameron Green (87 not out).
