LAST NIGHT

New Zealand blew Group 2 wide open with a stunning upset win over host nation and tournament favourites India, with their unheralded spin trio doing the damage.

Having left star quicks Trent Boult and Tim Southee out of the side, the Blacks Caps relied on the slow bowling of Nathan McCullum, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi - who took nine wickets between them - to rout India for just 79 and secure a 47-run thrashing.

Bangladesh will be looking to continue their good recent record over Pakistan when the two sides meet in Kolkata.

The two sides have locked horns on five occasions in limited-overs cricket over the past 12 months, with Bangladesh winning all the five matches – three ODIs and two T20Is.

They whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 in the ODI series at home and then won the one-off T20 international and just last month they knocked Pakistan out of the Asia Cup T20 with a five wicket win in Mirpur.

"Obviously there is a bit of confidence," said Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza.

"We have played some good cricket in the last one and a half years, especially one-day internationals.

"In the three or four weeks we have done well in the Twenty20s as well so confidence is there and we want to make it count."

Meanwhile, England captain Eoin Morgan says his team are full of confidence heading into their opening World Twenty20 match on Wednesday against the West Indies.

Despite failing to make it past the second round since winning the T20 crown in 2010, Morgan said his players had a positive mindset after winning warm-up matches against New Zealand and a Mumbai Cricket Association XI.

"We are in a really good place mentally," Morgan told reporters on Tuesday.

"As long as we execute our plans and go about our business the way we normally do, I think we'll be in a stable position."

Allrounder Mitchell Marsh spoke of his pre-tournament fears that he would miss out on Australia's 15-man squad having been overlooked for the three-match series against India in January.

But his form in white-ball cricket following that squad announcement shot him into contention for the WT20 and he looks set to play a crucial role with both bat and ball. FULL STORY HERE

Marsh also spoke about the resurgence of fast-bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile, who overcame a serious shoulder injury just in time for the World T20.

In the absence of injured fast men Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, Coulter-Nile has been crowned Australia's new spearhead by his teammates. FULL STORY HERE

AUSTRALIA'S WOMEN

Australia's women's team are finalising their preperations for their WT20 opener against South Africa in Nagpur on Friday.

With spin expected to play a major role in the tournament, leg-spinner Kristen Beams is relishing the idea taking on a starring role for the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars in India.

"As a leg-spinner you have to be trying to take wickets and break the game open, so I was really pleased to do my job for the team," she said.

Meanwhile, the women's tournament got underway with hosts India getting the better of rivals Bangladesh and New Zealand proving too good for Sri Lanka.
