In-form Bailey ready to tackle India

Veteran batsman rapt with form as he prepares to battle India

George Bailey admits it will take some mental adjustment for him to make the shift from Twenty20 cricket to the one-day version, but the Australian veteran couldn't be happier with his form.

Bailey's 55 from 40 balls was one of few highlight for the Hobart Hurricanes in their comprehensive loss to the Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Wednesday night, in his last KFC Big Bash League game before joining the Australia's ODI squad for the five-match series against India.

While his teammates crumbled early against the Stars' spin, Bailey alone provided the resistance, crunching one big six into the Melbourne crowd off the bowling of fellow Australian ODI player and Tasmanian James Faulkner.

"I feel like from the back of the Shield season that I've been scoring some runs and been reasonably consistent in the BBL," Bailey told AAP.

"I couldn't be happier with how I'm hitting the ball or at least structuring my innings.

"It's nice to go into the series confident."

Bailey, who scored two half-centuries in Australia's most recent one-day series against England in September, already has two Shield centuries to his name this summer while his BBL|05 campaign to date has reaped scores of 62 not out, 56 not out and 55.

Bailey's innings included an unorthodox overhead swat more akin to a tennis shot than a cricket stroke that he admitted was part of the Twenty20 mentality he'll need to tone down in the longer form of the game.

"It is a bit of a change in mindset for me," he said.

"(Aaron) Finch and Davey Warner are going to be pretty attacking at the top and Maxy is going to play the way that Maxy plays, so for me it's more about just fitting in with what happens there.

"But certainly in terms of my intent and the way that I'll try to structure my innings ... I'd like to be able to replicate some of the things that I've been doing in this tournament."

While Bailey is relishing the thought of returning to Australian colours against India next week, the Hurricanes will need their other key batsmen, including openers Ben Dunk and Tim Paine, to stand up in the absence of their top run-scorer.

The Hurricanes' had been travelling well after big wins over the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder, but consecutive losses to both Melbourne teams has them fifth on the ladder with two games remaining against the Scorchers and Strikers.

While Bailey will be aiming to change his mindset against India, Australian teammate Glenn Maxwell notched a typically swashbuckling half-century for Stars in the same match and doesn't plan to change his approach against India.

"I'll continue to bat exactly the same way," Maxwell told reporters.

"(I'll) try to take on the spinners and get busy against the quicks."
