Gabba seats hot property as tickets go on sale

The ultimate guide for how to secure your tickets ahead of a massive summer of international cricket featuring more matches and opponents than ever before

The opening day of the Gabba Test against South Africa has outstripped Boxing Day as this summer's most in-demand ticket ahead of the opening of general public sales today.

Those signed up for the Australian Cricket Family enjoyed a four-day pre-sale window this week with the Brisbane Test's first day the ticket of choice ahead of a hotly anticipated series that pits the current top two teams in the World Test Championship standings against each other.

Early indications are for a sold-out Gabba Test given the pre-sale interest.

A massive crowd is still expected to turn out for the Proteas' first Boxing Day Test since 2008 amid a huge summer of cricket that will feature more matches and a greater number of bilateral opponents than any previous season.

There are 25 international bilateral matches scheduled for Australia's men's and women's teams this season across all formats, with six touring teams, as well as the men's T20 World Cup, where Australia will play a minimum of five fixtures around the country.

When do tickets go on sale for you?

The release of tickets to the public will be staggered across the day due to expected high demand. Below is the time tickets for each venue will become available

Sydneyand Canberra: 12pm AEST here

Melbourne and Hobart: 1pm AEST here

Brisbane/Gold Coast/Townsville/Cairns: 2pm AEST here

Adelaide: 2pm local (2.30pm AEST) here

Perth: 1pm local (3pm AEST)

The international cricket season starts with the ODI Super League matchups against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in the Far North Queensland centres of Townsville and Cairns, respectively.

For these matches, adult tickets are just $20 and $5 for children, with a ticket agency transaction fee of $3, while a family pass costs $43.

That is the same price for tickets to see the all-conquering Australian women's team led by Meg Lanning when they play in January for ODI and T20 matches against Pakistan in Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart and Canberra.

For all other men's international cricket – including T20 and ODI series against England, T20s and Tests against the West Indies, and the South Africa Tests, the entry level ticket price has remained unchanged for a seventh successive summer.

For these games, adult tickets will start at $30 (plus ticket agency transaction fees, which vary but are capped at $7.70), and children's tickets start at $10.

"We are looking forward to a fantastic summer of cricket, with six nations touring Australia as well as hosting the ICC Men's T20 World Cup," Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said in a statement.

"With tickets going on sale today, we encourage fans to get behind the Australian men's and women's teams by booking their spot.

"We have made sure that tickets remain held at accessible prices and we can't wait to welcome families, friends and fans of all ages to enjoy world class cricket and some unforgettable moments this summer."

The most expensive public seats for a day of cricket is the $160 charged for the 'straight hit' section at the Gabba, while the 'A Reserve' at the MCG and SCG costs $155 per seat.
