Some of the BBL's emerging stars have taken the competition by storm, with players like Cooper Connolly and Will Sutherland already showing they can be match-winners.
On the latest episode of The Surge Podcast, Mike Hussey examined some of the players aged 25 years old and under that have really caught his eye not only in the Big Bash, but going forward as well.
Nathan McSweeney (Brisbane Heat)
KFC BBL|14 stats
Innings: 5 | Runs: 136 | Batting average: 34 | Strike rate: 121 | HS: 78
"I like Nathan McSweeney. Looking at him and even talking to him, he's got the temperament and a well organised game to be successful at the highest level," Hussey said.
"I think he could be a real player for the future."
Hussey was full of praise for how McSweeney showcased his professionalism after being dropped from the Australian Test team.
"He was straight up to Brisbane, straight in the nets and then performed brilliantly in that game," he said.
Will Sutherland (Melbourne Renegades)
KFC BBL|14 Stats
Innings: 5 | Runs: 78 | Batting average: 26 | Strike rate: 118 | HS: 36
Wickets: 8 | Econ: 7.56 | Best Bowling: 3-14
"I like looking at the character side of things. Being given the leadership, captain of the Renegades. He's still pretty young, 25 years of age; I think that speaks volumes about his character and the person," Hussey said of Sutherland.
"I think he's got a big future in Australian cricket.
"At the moment I see him more as a bowling allrounder, but his batting is certainly pretty sound."
Cooper Connolly (Perth Scorchers)
KFC BBL|14 stats
Innings: 6 | Runs: 272 | Batting average: 68 | Strike rate: 126 | HS: 66
"He's been brilliant so far in the Big Bash," Hussey said of the competition's leading run-scorer.
"The temperament and the character is what is standing out to me. He's handled every situation calmly and quite skilfully.
"The one innings that stands out to me is the (innings) at Marvel Stadium. Young players, they come in and if they fall behind the run rate a little bit, generally the panic sets in – he didn't seem to panic at all."
Tanveer Sangha (Sydney Thunder)
KFC BBL|14 Stats
Matches: 2 | Wickets: 2 | Econ: 6.75 | Best Bowling: 2-27
"Unfortunately, he's injured at the moment but I like Tanveer Sangha. I think he's a massive loss for the Thunder," Hussey said.
"If they don't go through and win the title, he might be the reason why.
"A wicket-taker through the middle overs, he's got an air of confidence about himself.
"He's already played for Australia, so he's obviously been identified as someone with enormous talent."
