Redmayne the star again as Spirit claim Hundred title

Aussie opener Georgia Redmayne's efforts lift Spirit and overshadow Jess Jonassen's top score for the Welsh side

Australia star Georgia Redmayne picked up her second player of the match award in two days as she helped London Spirit chase down Welsh Fire's total to claim the women's Hundred title at Lord's.

In a tense finale, it was left to Deepti Sharma and Charlie Dean to get Spirit over the line, with Indian allrounder Sharma finishing the job with a six over long on with just two balls left.

Having opted to bowl first, Spirit's Tara Norris dismissed Sophia Dunkley for two before leg-spinner Sarah Glenn removed Tammy Beaumont (22) and Sarah Bryce for a duck across three balls.

That brought Hayley Matthews (22) and Jess Jonassen (54) together and they rebuilt Fire's innings as they posted 8-115 from their 100 balls.

In reply, Meg Lanning lasted only nine balls after South African speedster Shabnim Ismail proved too good for the former Australian captain when dismissing her for four.

It began a trend of Ismail taking key wickets in her 3-24 as Fire  defended their total, bowling both captain Heather Knight (24) and Dani Gibson (22).

But Spirit's main chase was built around Redmayne, who made a steely 34, and laid the foundations for Knight, Gibson and then Sharma to secure the trophy for London Spirit.

Opening left-hander Redmayne, who cracked an unbeaten half-century to help see off London rivals Oval Invincibles in Saturday's eliminator, said: "A long time between boundaries, Ismail bowled great and took key wickets.

"I don't think you ever feel in control in a final, but so proud in front of a record crowd at Lord's."
