Quick Henry Thornton has backed up a stunning seven-wicket haul with four scalps to spearhead Australia A to a three-nil sweep in a two-wicket win over New Zealand A.
Two days after claiming the best-ever figures for an Australia A player, Thornton again starred with 4-32 in the third and final one-dayer at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
Tim Seifert hit 100 for the Kiwis on Friday but the visitors could only manage 228 batting first as the South Australian Thornton proved unstoppable.
Australia A captain Will Sutherland returned to bowling for the first time since the end of last season, taking 1-20 from six overs.
The home team lost wickets regularly during the chase, at one stage slumping to 5-114.
But opener Matt Short (52) and Matt Renshaw (48) did enough in the top order to allow Ollie Davies (48) and Sutherland (32) could finish off the job.
To complete a memorable week for Thornton, the 26-year-old hit the winning run with nine overs to spare.
"I think we did well to navigate our way to that total and our bowlers did really well to restrict them to (under) 240," Sutherland said.
"I felt really good so obviously great to be back and bowling. Hopefully I can keep building to the start of the domestic season."
