With women's sport growing in momentum, cricket superstar Ellyse Perry has no plans to call time on her almost two-decade-long career
Women's sport hype major motivator for Perry
A dodgy knee and being on the wrong side of 30 won't stop Australian cricket superstar Ellyse Perry from playing for as long as she can.
The brilliant allrounder signed a two-year deal with Weber WBBL club Sydney Sixers on Thursday, moving on from her knee injury sustained in Australia's second ODI clash against Ireland in July.
The 32-year-old Perry made 91 from 99 balls that day, and the good news for fans is the Sydneysider still craves the hunger that made her one of the world's best.
"It's pure speculation to know what happens in a couple years' time but from my perspective, I still love being involved," she said, with her professional career spanning almost two decades.
"In terms of motivation, it's still exactly the same, if not more."
Perry cited the recent momentum in women's sport as one of the key motivating factors feeding her thirst to play on.
"In a lot of senses, it's (women's sport) arrived and things just become more and more exciting every year.
"After our Ashes campaign over in the UK and the way that that was followed, the crowd numbers that we drew, the level of competition that it presented - it's hard not to want to be involved for as long as possible."
Meanwhile, Perry added the entire Australian team was behind skipper Meg Lanning who was ruled out of the recently completed Ashes for medical reasons.
Perry did not give an update on Lanning's condition but said they were all supporting her.
"We've seen Meg around and she's obviously got the full support of the playing squad. "She'll be available for cricket if and when she wants to be."
