Morris recommits to Scorchers for two more seasons

The signings keep coming for the recently crowned BBL champions, with Australia Test squad member Lance Morris committing to the Perth Scorchers for a further two seasons

Express quick Lance Morris has committed to Perth Scorchers for at least two more seasons in another singing boost for the KFC BBL|12 champions.

A breakout start to the Marsh Sheffield Shield season and subsequent selection in Australia's Test squad for the majority of the summer meant the right-armer played just five games for the Scorchers this season.

But he made the most of his short stint, taking nine wickets in his most productive BBL season to date.

The club was keen to secure Morris' signature, and while currently on Australia's Qantas tour of India, the 24-year-old said he had no hesitation in signing on until the end of the 2024-25 season.

"We’ve got great coaches, staff and players, and it’s a pretty exciting time to be part of the organisation," he said.

"I’m definitely striving to improve with the white ball and looking for any opportunity to better myself."

Morris and his Scorchers teammates Ashton Agar and Cameron Green were seen celebrating their side's victory over the Brisbane Heat on Saturday from their Bangalore hotel room, with the quick elated despite having missed out on the win.

"(Winning a tight match) made it even more special and summed up the season, really," Morris said.

"We overcame a fair bit of adversity with some draftees not being available and people dropping in and out, but our squad as a whole was really strong, so it was good to see a bit of success.

"Fifty-thousand people at Optus Stadium is always going to be something that’s pretty exciting. We’re lucky to have such a loyal supporter base; we’re playing really nice cricket at the moment, and it’s good to see people turning out in droves.

Morris joins the growing list of Scorchers re-signings, after new deals for the evergreen AJ Tye (one-year deal) and grand final hero Cooper Connolly (two years) were recently announced.

Batter Cameron Bancroft, allrounder Green, spinner Peter Hatzoglou and bowlers Jason Behrendorff and Matthew Kelly are the only BBL|12 players out of contract.
