Garth capped as Australia hunt series win

Kim Garth named for her ODI debut as Australia make one change and bowl first after Pakistan won the toss for the second ODI in Brisbane

Former Ireland allrounder Kim Garth will make her Australian one-day debut in the second ODI in Brisbane, with Pakistan electing to bat first after Bismah Maroof won the coin toss.

Garth has added ODI cap No.149 to the Aussie T20I debut she made in India last month, with captain Meg Lanning doing the honours on an overcast morning at Allan Border Field.

Garth has replaced Megan Schutt in the Australian attack with the hosts looking to seal a series win after cruising to an eight-wicket victory in Monday's series opener.

Australia XI:  Beth Mooney (wk), Phoebe Litchfield, Meg Lanning (c), Ellyse Perry, Tahlia McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Jess Jonassen, Alana King, Kim Garth, Darcie Brown

Pakistan XI: Muneeba Ali, Sidra Ameen, Bismah Maroof (c), Omaima Sohail, Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz, Kainat Imtiaz, Fatima Sana, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Diana Baig, Sadia Iqbal

The veteran South Australian swing bowler is being managed with a busy period ahead of the Australian side including next month's T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Garth, 26, played 34 ODIs for Ireland between 2010 and 2018, before she made the tough call to walk away from her home nation to pursue life as a full-time domestic cricketer in Victoria in 2020.

Garth became eligible to represent Australia last September and her excellent form in both the WNCL and WBBL saw national selectors come calling for December's tour of India.

She will likely take the new ball alongside Darcie Brown, while Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland and Tahlia McGrath round out the pace attack.

While she bats in the middle-order for Victoria, Australia's batting depth saw her named at No.10 in Wednesday's XI.

Australia have otherwise named an unchanged side, with Phoebe Litchfield to look to back up her memorable 78no on ODI debut when she opens the batting alongside Beth Mooney.

Pakistan have named an unchanged XI as they seek a history making first win over Australia.

Australia's trio of spinners made life difficult for the Pakistan batters in Monday's series opener and speaking on the eve of the second match, Alana King said she hoped there would again be something on offer for the slow bowlers with the same Allan Border pitch to be used.

"(I'm) feeling great, the ball is fizzing is out of the hand which is what I want to see," King said.

"It's great to see that there is some spin here at AB, I've played here a few times and I haven't seen that much spin, so hopefully there's plenty of that to come in the next game.

"We're all licking our lips when there's plenty of spin on offer because we all offer something different, and we work really tightly as a group."
