Proteas rolled for record low as India level T20 series

India bowled out South Africa for a record-low total of 87 to win their Twenty20 by 82 runs and set up the fifth and last match as the series decider.

Avesh Khan's career-best 4-18 on Friday helped plunge South Africa to their lowest total in T20s.

India put up 6-169 thanks to Dinesh Karthik's maiden T20 half-century, a blistering 55 off 27 balls.

It was their biggest win over South Africa in T20s, the previous biggest victory coming by 48 runs three days earlier in the third match at Visakhapatnam.

Chasing 170, South Africa were down to 2-26 in 5.2 overs. Quinton de Kock was run out for 14, and Dwaine Pretorius was caught behind off Khan for a six-ball duck.

Effectively, the chasing side were three down when skipper Temba Bavuma retired hurt on eight after Khan's bouncer injured his left elbow.

Rassie van der Dussen scored 20 off 20 balls as South Africa's top scorer, with only de Kock and Marco Jansen (12) also reaching double figures.

Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal contributed with 2-21 while Harshal Patel earned the key wicket of David Miller, bowling him for nine.

Khan's three-wicket burst in the 14th over all but finished off the South Africans, who lasted just 16.5 overs.

India romped to its biggest win over South Africa in T20s. Its previous biggest win by runs was by 48 three days ago in the third T20 at Visakhapatnam.

Put in to bat, India made a poor start losing Ruturaj Gaikwad (5) and Shreyas Iyer (4) cheaply.

They were 3-40 in the seventh over when Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya shared 41 runs to resurrect the innings, with Pandya soldiering on to 46 off 31 balls.

Karthik starred late on, his 55 including nine fours and two sixes and his half-century coming up off 20 balls. 

Karthik is India's longest serving T20 player, having featured in their inaugural game in 2006 against South Africa at Johannesburg.
