BBL stars shine as Queensland dominate U19 Champs

Teams from Queensland win both the men's and women's titles at the Under-19 National Championships

Young Queensland cricketers have established themselves as the best in the country, with the state winning both men's and women's titles at the recent Under-19 National Championships.

Brisbane Heat stars Charli Knott and Georgia Voll led the way as Queensland won the women's title thanks to a 131-run win over South Australia in Adelaide, with Voll slamming 121 in the tournament final.

Teenage leg-spinner Grace Parsons then picked up three wickets as South Australia were bowled out for just 142 in reply to Queensland's 7-273.

Queenslander skipper Knott, who averaged 69 with the bat for the tournament, won the Betty Wilson Medal as player of the championships and was one of four Queenslanders in the Team of the Championships alongside Voll, Parsons and wicketkeeper Caitlin Mair.

Established Big Bash stars like Pheobe Litchfield, Ella Hayward and Amy Smith were also named in the team of the tournament.

It was also a Queensland clean sweep in the men's competition, with Queensland Metro’s Stephan Muller named player of the final for his composed innings of 74 in a low-scoring game against NSW Metro.

Having elected to bat first, Queensland Metro finished with just 9-198 but were able to defend their modest total, with the wickets shared by the Queenslanders as NSW Metro were bowled out for 171.

Queensland Metro skipper Noah McFadyen was named Player of the Championships and was named in the team of the tournament alongside Tasmania allrounder, Nivethan Radhakrishnan.
