Campbell wraps up West Indies Test win

John Campbell clubbed the winning six as West Indies needed only seven overs to take a 1-0 lead in their two-Test series against Bangladesh

John Campbell has hammered the winning six as West Indies needed only seven overs to seal their seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first Test.

West Indies finished on 3-88 after resuming on Sunday's fourth day on 3-49 in their second innings, needing 35 more runs to clinch the series opener.

Campbell accelerated his scoring rate and finished the match with a six over long off against Najmul Hossain Shanto.

He hit nine fours and one six in his 58 not out, while Jermaine Blackwood, at the other end, was undefeated on 26 after the pair came to their team's rescue with an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 79.

Out-of-form Bangladesh had given the hosts a scare on Saturday, at one stage reducing the West Indies to 3-9 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

West Indies scored 265 in their first innings, while Bangladesh were bowled out for 103 and 245.

Bangladesh recorded six ducks in their first innings, again equalling the unwanted record for the most in a Test innings.

Of the seven instances in which there have been six ducks in a Test innings, the Tigers are responsible for three, including in the first innings of their previous Test against Sri Lanka last month.

Bangladesh medium-pacer Khaled Ahmed, who took three wickets in 11 balls on day three, was unable to break through again, finishing with 3-27 from eight overs.

The second and final Test starts on Friday at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia.
