David delivers again on mixed night of T20 for Aussies

Tim David and James Pattinson played key roles in their sides' wins but Glamorgan's Queensland continent had a night to forget in the T20 Blast

Tim David blasted a match-turning 26-ball 42 to keep Lancashire unbeaten in the T20 Blast, but Northamptonshire will rue some undisciplined bowling in the final over from New Zealand's Jimmy Neesham in a tense final-over thriller.

Neesham had to defend just six off the final over but looked to have gained the upper hand after taking two wickets, including the dangerous David, to leave Lancashire needing three off the final bowl.

Neesham then bowled a wide that allowed the batters to scamper a single, then delivered a no ball full toss to gift Lancashire a two-wicket win.

Chris Lynn was unwell and missed the match for Northamptonshire as Saif Zaib, who first played for the county as a 15-year-old, struck an unbeaten 57 from 41 balls to steer the visitors to 6-153 on a used pitch at Old Trafford.

David claimed his first wicket in the T20 Blast when he bowled Neesham for three in the 16th over to curtail the Northants innings.

Lancashire's reply was hampered by regular wickets, and they lost the big-hitting Liam Livingstone cheaply, but three huge sixes from David lifted the home side.

Wickets continued to fall around David setting up the tense finish, with Neesham taking 4-26 in a losing cause.

Lynn, who struck a century in his previous innings, is expected to return for Northants in their Sunday match against Durham.

Hales storm destroys Derby

James Pattinson claimed two wickets but was expensive in conceding 38 runs from three overs, but it mattered little in the end as some Alex Hales fireworks led their Nottinghamshire side to a big win over Derbyshire.

Derby were going well at 4-169, although their innings was stalled when Dan Christian ran out Leus du Plooy for 51 with a sharp throw from the deep, rom before Pattinson claimed two wickets in the 18th over as the wheels fell off the batting innings.

The Victorian had Harry Came caught for 11, then two balls later bowled Brooke Guest for 5. Derby lost four wickets in the final over, with Jake Ball (4-40) taking three in four balls before Hayden Kerr was run out on the final ball for one.

Sydney Thunder star Alex Hales made short work of the run chase, going beserk with five sixes and 12 fours as he smashed 91 from 33 balls before holing out.

Kerr conceded just four opening the bowling but was taken for 18 in his next over as Hales and Joe Clarke each smashed him for successive boundaries as Notts cruised to a seven-wicket win.

Glamorgan Aussies left feeling glum

It was a night out to forget for Glamorgan's Aussie contingent as they were thumped by nine wickets by Somerset.

Marnus Labuschagne made just one, caught in the deep pulling former Brisbane Heat teammate Lewis Gregory, and later saw his one over of leg-spin disappear for 19 runs.

Michael Neser was the most economical of Glamorgan's bowlers, his 13 balls conceding 17 runs as Somerset chased down the target of 174 with 5.5 overs to spare.

Somerset opener Will Smeed smashed eight sixes and seven fours in his 94no off 41 balls, while former Big Bash imports Tom Banton (45) and Rilee Rossouw (30no) completed the rout.

Sussex claim DLS win

Sussex were without Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe when they hosted Middlesex, with his initial four-game T20 Blast stint over - although he is expected to return later in the competition - having struck 70 from 43 balls in their previous outing against Somerset.

Philippe's replacement, New Zealander Tim Seifert, struck 35 from 21 while Ravi Bopara hit an unbeaten 54 from 36 as Sussex inflicted a first defeat of the season on Middlesex in any format.

There was a wicket each for Middlesex's Aussie pair Jason Behrendorff (1-23 on his debut with the county) and Chris Green (1-29).

Middlesex had scored 163 in 19.4 overs with Behrendorff the last man out, run out for 2 at the non-strikers end with Green unbeaten on 22 from 11 balls.

A rain delay meant Sussex were set a target of 146 in 17 overs and, with 10 needed in the final over, Bopara hit a six over long-on then followed it up next ball with a leg-glanced boundary to complete a five-wicket win.

At Headingley, Andrew Tye hit 10no in three balls to put the finishing touches on Durham's 8-207, and then claimed 2-33 from three overs, but Yorkshire easily romped to a three-wicket win in a high-scoring encounter.

Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth (77 off 33) and former Perth Scorchers star David Willey (75no off 39) were instrumental in Yorkshire reaching the target with 14 balls to spare.
