Optus Stadium locked in to host WBBL Final

Optus Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for this year's Weber WBBL|07 Final, with Perth Scorchers sealing top spot on the table with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Sydney Sixers in Adelaide.

The Scorchers earned the right to progress directly to and host the decider under the new WBBL finals system, and now have the advantage of a week off to rest and prepare for a tilt at their maiden WBBL title.

Perth will not know their opponent until after Thursday's Challenger final, which pits the second-ranked Melbourne Renegades against the winner of Wednesday's Eliminator between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat.

It will be the first time the WBBL decider has been held at the 60k capacity stadium, and only the third women's Big Bash game at the venue.

The Scorchers have played at the ground twice before in double-headers with the KFC BBL; the first was a semi-final in WBBL|03 against Sydney Thunder, the second a Boxing Day blockbuster against Brisbane Heat which attracted a crowd of 14,983.

The last time the tournament final was played in Perth was in WBBL|02, when the Scorchers went down to the Sixers at the WACA Ground, and the last time the Scorchers featured in the decider was in WBBL|03, when they lost to the same opponent at Adelaide Oval.

Details of mid-week finals featuring the Renegades, Heat and Strikers will be confirmed later today following Adelaide's match against Melbourne Stars.

The Scorchers' fate was all but locked in heading into Sunday's game against the out-of-sorts Sixers; they would have needed to lose by 150 runs or with 119 balls to spare to drop below the Renegades on net run rate.

Leg-spinner Alana King stamped her authority on the match when she removed Sixers openers Alyssa Healy (17 off 22) and Shafali Verma (27 off 22) in the same over, then picked up a third when she bowled Nicole Bolton for 19.

King finished with figures of 3-18 as the Sixers were kept to 4-128.

In reply, Scorchers openers Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney put on 34 for the first wicket before Lauren Cheatle took a brilliant diving catch in the deep to remove the Kiwi star for 18.

Bolton held on to a chance off her own bowling to end tournament leading run scorer Mooney's innings on 26.

But Chloe Piparo (50no from 39) and Heather Graham (30no from 23) stepped up to see their side to a clinical victory with 17 balls to spare. 

It was not the performance the Sixers would have hoped for to celebrate Healy's 100th game, as they finished on the bottom of the WBBL table for the first time.
