The Sydney Sixers have added experienced England international Chris Jordan to their squad for BBL|11 after West Indian star Carlos Brathwaite was ruled out with injury
Sixers score major coup in quest for historic three-peat
The Sydney Sixers might be Chris Jordan's fourth Big Bash club, but it could just be where the English seamer feels most at home.
The right-armer has been unveiled as the Sixers’ replacement for injured West Indian star Carlos Brathwaite after confirmation the allrounder would miss the tournament as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
Jordan joins compatriots James Vince and Tom Curran in the Sixers squad for KFC BBL|11 with the team looking to create history by becoming the first club to win three titles in a row.
The 33-year-old also joins his IPL teammate Moises Henriques at the Sixers for his fourth BBL campaign after previous stints with the Perth Scorchers, Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers.
"I recently played with Moises in the IPL at the Punjab Kings and also played with him at (Sunrisers) Hyderabad, so I know Moey pretty well," Jordan told cricket.com.au.
"I've played against quite a few of the guys who have been around for quite some time as well, so I think the squad's amazing, so full of talent and it's pretty exciting, I'm just very happy to be a part of it and looking forward to getting going.
"It's always good to play with TC (Curran) and Vincy, they're very good friends of mine and they obviously know plenty about what the Sixers are all about so hopefully they can help me to hit the ground running."
Jordan, Curran and Vince were all part of England's T20 World Cup squad that despite being bundled out in the semi-final by New Zealand remains the most dominant white-ball team of the past four to five years.
It's that culture of success, similar to that at the Sixers, that Jordan will look to bring to the group in their quest for a three-peat.
"We (England limited-overs teams) have a pretty clear way of how we want to play the game," he said.
"We just try to stay as true to that as possible, try to be as aggressive, as positive and as forward thinking as possible. Those types of attributes have paid dividends for us over the past four to five years.
"That coupled with Eoin Morgan's leadership … has been the reasons behind why we've been able to make good strides over the last four to five years."
Jordan played all six games for England at the recent T20 World Cup in the UAE, taking six wickets, including 3-17 in the pool game against eventual champions Australia.
That Australian side featured Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa, who Jordan will face off again with when the Sixers and Melbourne Stars open the BBL competition on Sunday night.
"It's always good playing against the best in the world and coming up against what will be a pretty strong Stars team," he said.
Jordan, a veteran of 71 T20 international appearances and 250 T20 matches in various leagues across the globe, will play the first five games for the Sixers before jetting off again.
The Sixers are yet to sign another overseas player for when Jordan leaves but remain hopeful injured fast bowlers Jackson Bird and Ben Dwarshuis will have recovered by then.
Coach Greg Shipperd said it was a real shame to lose Brathwaite for the tournament, but Jordan would add a wealth of experience being an entrenched member of England's white-ball teams.
"Carlos is a Sixers family member and favourite with our fans and supporters so we wish him well in his recovery and I'm sure we'll cross paths again with him at some stage," Shipperd said.
"If you're in short-form cricket for the English cricket team you're in elite company and all three of those (Jordan, Curran and Vince) are in those English squads as we speak."
