Perry, Healy break world record in WBBL run spree

It may have been Ellyse Perry’s birthday, but the Sydney Sixers allrounder was content to gift her partner-in-crime Alyssa Healy the chance to bring up her third Rebel WBBL century on Sunday.

Batting first against the Melbourne Stars at the WACA, a stunning opening stand between the pair had taken the Sixers to 0-181 with one over remaining.

Healy had been the aggressor and was on 90 from just 49 deliveries, Perry – sedate only in contrast – was on 86 from 67.

Healy hit a four before running a single, Perry making sure she returned the strike to her partner next delivery.

It left Healy with three balls to reach triple figures but she needed just two, hitting back-to-back boundaries before adding another for good measure, finishing unbeaten on 106 from 53.

"I told Midge I wanted a cheeky single and she told me to get lost," a laughing Perry joked on Channel 7 at the end of the innings when asked what the pair discussed during that final over.

The pair posted 0-199, a new world record for highest partnership in a domestic women’s T20.

It proved far too lofty a target for the Stars, who finished on 6-154 despite captain Elyse Villani’s 59.

"It was good fun out there today," Healy said.

"Pez (Perry) batted beautifully and I'm grateful that she gave me the opportunity to get a ton.

"I'm enjoying my cricket at the moment. I'm fairly relaxed and in a really enjoyable space at the moment. Hopefully that can continue."

At one point, Healy was 12 from 13 balls before she flicked the switch in staggering fashion, belting 13 fours and four sixes.

Perhaps surprisingly, given Healy’s ridiculous form for Australia throughout 2019, it was her first score above 50 from five innings this tournament.

She now has 199 runs for WBBL|05 at 49.75 – with absurd strike rate of 159.20 – while Perry has 279 at an average of 139.50.

The Sixers now sit third on the table with three wins from four matches to date.

It was the first time they had played at the WACA since the WBBL|02 final, when they defeated the Scorchers, and they will make another trip west to play Perth at Lilac Hill on November 23 and 24.

"It’s a great place to play. we love playing at the WACA in particular, it’s always a pretty nice batting wicket, and we’ve had some success here," Healy said.

"Most importantly we got two more points for the ladder and we’re climbing our way back up there."

On Saturday, Healy became the latest international Sixer to pen a new deal, with the club announcing she had signed a new deal that will keep her in magenta until at least the end of WBBL|08.

It comes after Erin Burns’ re-signing was announced last week.

"It was a fairly easy decision to re-sign with the Sixers and hopefully have another three successful years," Healy said.

"It never really crossed my mind to go anywhere else.

"It was an easy call to stay and help with the group of young kids coming through. Hopefully they will take over when a few of us have had enough."
