Aussies, SL make changes for third T20I
Australia will bowl first in tonight's third T20 international hoping to complete a 3-0 series whitewash against the touring Sri Lankans.
Captain Aaron Finch won the toss at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and announced two changes from the team that won by nine wickets at the Gabba on Wednesday.
As flagged by coach Justin Langer, Tasmania's Ben McDermott comes in for Glenn Maxwell, who has withdrawn from the series to take a short break deal for mental health reasons.
Having missed Wednesday's match to attend his brother's wedding, pace ace Mitch Starc returns in place of towering Queensland quick Billy Stanlake.
McDermott has played eight T20 internationals since his debut against the United Arab Emirates in October 2018, scoring just 72 runs from 76 deliveries in limited opportunities.
In his brief international career, McDermott holds the unwanted Australian record of three consecutive run-outs, all coming against Pakistan in the space of five days.
But the 24-year-old returns to the Australian side in form having scored an unbeaten 103 against South Australia in the Marsh One Day Cup along with 58 in his last innings against a star-studded NSW Blues bowling attack.
Sri Lanka have made four changes, with Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Dasun Shanaka, Wanidu Hasaranga and Isuru Udana missing out for Shehan Jayasuriya, Bhanuka Rajapakshra, Oshada Fernando and Lahiru Kumara.
Wednesday's win secured Australia's first T20I series win over Sri Lanka on home soil, who had not lost to the hosts in their own conditions in three previous series.
While Sri Lanka will be aiming to avoid a clean sweep, the tourists will be boosted by playing at the MCG, a venue where they have recorded two wins from as many matches against Australia in T20 cricket.
