ASICS unveils Aussie World Cup uniform

Glenn Maxwell turns model to reveal eagerly-awaited kit of the five-times champs

Australia's World Cup uniform has been unveiled by apparel manufacturer ASICS, as Aaron Finch's side set out to defend the title they won four years ago.

The uniform is predominantly yellow, with a lime green collar, shoulders and sides on the shirt, while a thin green stripe runs down the sides of the pants.

The kit colour scheme is not dissimilar to the retro uniforms worn by Australia in this year's Gillette ODI Series against India on home soil.

Next summer, Australia will once again wear retro uniforms after a fan-voted competition led to the 1999 World Cup kit being selected ahead of seven other uniforms.

Australia's World Cup defence starts in Bristol against Afghanistan on June 1. The 10 competing nations play each other once before the top four teams lock horns in the semi-finals ahead of the final at Lord's on July 14.

Australia won the 2015 World Cup on home soil – their fifth success in a tournament that began in 1975.

Australia will enter the World Cup on the back of away series victories over India and Pakistan and eight-straight wins, a record that has veteran batsman Shaun Marsh confident the defending champions can make a deep run in the quadrennial tournament.

"I honestly think we're in really good shape," Marsh said. "The way we finished off in India, to come back from 0-2 down and to win 5-0 against Pakistan in the subcontinent, I think we should hold a lot of confidence.

"That doesn't guarantee anything moving forward but it gives us confidence we're heading in the right direction and if we keep working hard, whoever is picked for the World Cup we're in a good place. It's exciting times."
