Zampa reprimanded by ICC

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa has earnt a slap on the wrist from the International Cricket Council after a code of conduct breach was levelled against him in Australia’s victory over West Indies on Thursday.

Zampa was charged with using an "audible obscenity" while bowling during a tense period of the Windies' run chase at Trent Bridge.

He admitted the offence, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing, and the ICC issued him with one demerit point. Players are banned when they reach four or more demerit points within a 24-month period.

Zampa took 1-58 from 10 overs in Australia's second straight win of the tournament.

The ICC confirmed the incident took place at the end of the 29th over. Having earlier broken through for the key wicket of Nicholas Pooran for 40, Zampa endured a frustrating few overs as Australia, defending 288, pressed for another decisive breakthrough.

The 27-year-old had an lbw shout against Shai Hope turned down before drawing play-and-misses from both Hope and Shimron Hetmyer. Hetmyer and Jason Holder then hit him for consecutive fours as he switched bowling ends in the lead-in to the outburst.

West Indies allrounder Carlos Brathwaite criticised the umpiring during the enthralling match, while Test legend Michael Holding fumed about "weak" officiating on the television commentary.

The Windies successfully overturned four separate out decisions in their innings, while umpire Chris Gaffaney also missed a no-ball call the delivery before Chris Gayle was dismissed.

Brathwaite did however insist the decisions did not cost his team the match.

Zampa took 3-60 in his side's first-up win over Afghanistan and has been widely praised for adding a new dimension to Australia's bowling attack during their ODI winning streak that extended to 10 games on Thursday.

Captain Aaron Finch has even said he's open to using Zampa with the new ball during the World Cup.

Zampa's reprimand comes after England pair Jofra Archer and Jason Roy were fined earlier this week. while the entire Pakistan team was also been sanctioned following their match at Trent Bridge.

Roy has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee after he was found guilty of uttering an audible obscenity when he mis-fielded during the 15th over of Pakistan's innings on Monday.

Archer also copped a 15 per cent fine after being found guilty of showing "obvious dissent" at an umpire's wide call in the 28th over of Pakistan's innings.

All eleven Pakistan players are also lighter in the wallet after they were found to be behind the over rate in their stunning upset win.
