Coming to Amazon Prime in 2020, a new documentary follows the Australian Men's team from the fallout in Cape Town to their Ashes defence
Details revealed for new doco on the Aussie Men's team
Lock it into your diaries – March 12 is the release date for the highly anticipated documentary series that follows the Australian Men's Cricket Team over 18 months from the fallout of the Cape Town ball-tampering saga all the way to their Ashes defence in England.
The eight-part series – titled The Test: A New Era for Australia's Team – will be available to stream in Australia on Amazon Prime Video the day before Australia's Gillette ODI Series against New Zealand gets underway at the SCG.
The streaming date was revealed today with the release of a second teaser for the series that highlights the behind-the-scenes access of the documentary from the very beginning of Australia's journey after Cape Town.
"For a long time, Australian cricket's been very closed off, especially at international, Australian level, not allowing people into the change rooms," Usman Khawaja said.
"I think this documentary is great, to see the other side of it, a lot of the fans wouldn't have seen it ever, unless you were invited to come in. It's a pretty special place, very different to what you see on the outside."
The documentary will follow the Australian team through the appointment of Justin Langer as head coach, their home Test series against India, limited-overs tours overseas and their highly successful 2019 campaign in the United Kingdom where they reached the semi-finals of the World Cup and managed to retain the Ashes during a thrilling Test series against arch-rivals England.
Viewers will be presented with unprecedented access to Langer's side as the docuseries follows the journey the Australian team went on following the infamous Newlands Test in March 2018.
Amazon Prime Video will show the series in Australia from March 12, with its release planned for more than 200 countries and territories around the world.
The Test is produced by CA Films in partnership with Australian production company Whooshka Media. Cricket Australia's Head of Broadcast & Production Richard Ostroff is thrilled with the final product.
"Our national team, led by Tim Paine, Aaron Finch and Justin Langer, have been on a considerable journey over the past 18 months," Ostroff said.
"The Test has captured the highs and lows of this story intimately and we are thrilled to work with Amazon Prime Video to bring this story to cricket fans around the world."
The director of the docuseries, Adrian Brown, said it was great to work alongside Cricket Australia during the project and thanked all the coaches and players for the access they provided.
"Cricket is a game steeped in tradition, and the behind the scenes access the Australian Cricket team have provided for The Test is unprecedented," Brown said.
"I can't speak highly enough of the players and coaches involved. Having the opportunity to tell this story of resilience, character and achievement against-the-odds has been a privilege and I can't wait to share it."
