Match Report:
ScorecardCarey, Head star as Redbacks bite back
Half-centuries from Travis Head and Alex Carey lifted South Australia to a crucial eight-wicket bonus-point win over Tasmania in the Marsh One-Day Cup on Tuesday.
The Redbacks made light of Tasmania's 7-255 to reach victory at Karen Rolton Oval in 38.4 overs.
Australia's World Cup wicketkeeper Carey was in superb touch and hit the winning runs after a free-flowing unbeaten 80 off 52 balls.
Ashes tourist Head also ended up unbeaten on 80 in a 99-ball knock as SA ended on 2-257.
All SA's batsman got among the runs with Jake Weatherald returning in style following a brief injury absence with 53 off 57 balls, while Callum Ferguson contributed 28.
Both teams entered the match with one win from three starts and in danger of losing touch with leading pair Western Australia and Queensland.
Earlier, Tasmania opener Caleb Jewell hit a maiden century in any form of state cricket as Tasmania eyed a second win over SA in three days.
The 22-year-old was dismissed for 104 off 117-ball innings, having sharing
a 162-run stand for the third wicket along with Jordan Silk (87).
Both teams will now turn their attention to next week's opening round of the Sheffield Shield before a return to the 50-over format in late October.
