Result stands in Gabba Big Bash clash

Cricket Australia have announced the result of the KFC Big Bash clash between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder will stand.

Both teams were awarded one point for the match that was abandoned due to floodlight failure, but the Thunder felt they should have been awarded two points.

Thunder General Manager Lee Germon claimed it should be the responsibility of the venue to provide lighting for the match and asked Cricket Australia to award his team the two points.

However Big Bash Chief Kim McConnie said match conditions on the night had been applied by match officials and the correct result had been awarded.

"After reviewing the issues the Thunder presented we have determined that the correct decision was made, and the result of the match will stand," McConnie said.

"The BBL match on Thursday 17 January was unable to be completed due to an external power issue that was outside the control of Cricket Australia, the Brisbane Heat, and the Gabba.

"The umpires on the night applied the correct Playing Conditions in determining the conditions at the match to be both dangerous and unreasonable due to insufficient light.

"The safety of players and officials is of paramount importance to Cricket Australia and any Playing Condition relating to the safety of our players is one that is treated very seriously by our match officials. The match officials are ultimately responsible for the safety of our players and officials whilst on the field of play and we entrust them to make decisions with this in mind."

The Thunder will be back in action on Tuesday night when they host the Melbourne Renegades at Spotless Stadium.
