Australia focusing on recent record in the 20-over format as they prepare for one-off T20I
Maxwell set to return for T20
Glenn Maxwell is set to take his place in Australia's Twenty20 side for a one-off match against England at Edgbaston on Wednesday night.
Maxwell had missed the last two matches of Australia's 5-0 ODI series defeat to England after injuring his shoulder diving in the field at Trent Bridge.
However, the Victorian came through the squad's training session at Edgbaston on Tuesday afternoon to prove his fitness and took part in the range-hitting session that saw several Aussie batsmen pepper the Edgbaston grandstand with big hits.
Australia enter this series with a six-game winning streak in T20 cricket, having twice beaten England on their way to triumph in February's tri-series that also featured New Zealand.
Australia captain Aaron Finch said there would be no hangover from the ODI series for the T20 team.
"We had a debrief from the (ODI) series a couple of days ago and, not moved on as such, but we've put a little bit of that stuff to bed just for now," Finch said.
"No doubt we'll revisit it when the time is right to start learning a little bit more and start moving forward as a one-day squad.
"But as a T20 team I don't think a real lot needs to be said (to the players).
"We've got some fresh faces coming in to bring some new energy, guys that have got no baggage hanging over from the one-day series at all.
"It's a great opportunity to get out there so quickly after the one-day series and strut our stuff in a format we've been really successful at recently."
England's assistant coach Paul Farbrace takes over head coach duties for this match and the host nation's T20s against India that follow, and confirmed wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler would open.
"In a 120-ball innings you want to get your best strikers facing as many balls as possible. In the form he's in and the way he is playing in makes sense to get him at the top of the order," said Farbrace.
Finch, who is also set to open for Australia, possibly alongside Nic Maddinson with whom he shared a net at training, said the Aussies had expected the move given Buttler's standout performances in this year's IPL.
"We've done a little bit of planning so far and that was definitely one of the options. Jos did a great job at the top of the order in the IPL so definitely no surprise there," said Finch.
"In this format we've had some great success recently; we've come from seventh in the world to second and that's a great achievement.
"We've done that with teams that have been mixed and matched at times and we're starting to get a bit more settled on a squad that's going to take us forward.
"We've got a lot of confidence in this format. The confidence in the one-dayers took a bit of a hit but I don't think there'll be any of that to worry about in this format."
Farbrace said England had learned how "dangerous" Australia could be during the trans-Tasman tri-series.
"They are a dangerous side and have some dangerous players in there. T20 cricket is often about one player having a day out. One player with bat or ball can change the game with bat or ball," said Farbrace.
"We're not thinking that because we won the ODI series this will be an easy game by any means. They are a skilful team and will want to finish their trip on a high."
Australia saw Tim Paine, Nathan Lyon, Shaun Marsh and Michael Neser depart after the ODI series, while Maddinson, Jack Wildermuth and leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson joined the squad.
Fast bowler Billy Stanlake did not bowl in Australia's one training session at Edgbaston, and looks likely to be saved for the clashes with Pakistan and Zimbabwe having played four of the five ODIs.
