WBBL stars to watch at World T20

The Women’s World T20 is about to begin in the Caribbean and the biggest names of the Rebel WBBL will be in action across 16 days of top-quality cricket.

Once the tournament final is run and won on November 24 in Antigua, Big Bash players will head straight to Melbourne for the ‘The Big Weekend’, a two-day festival of cricket that will feature all eight teams in action at Junction Oval.

So which players from your favourite club will be in action in the Caribbean? Find out here:

Adelaide Strikers

The Aussie squad features one Strikers player in spearhead Megan Schutt. The local product is the world’s top-ranked T20 bowler and has taken all before her across the last 12 months. But it doesn’t stop there for the Adelaide team: they’ve also got skipper Suzie Bates – the world’s No.1 T20I batter – and star allrounder Sophie Devine, who both play for New Zealand, alongside England off-spinner Danielle Hazell. 

Brisbane Heat

Brisbane boast three of Australia’s best in their WBBL|04 squad, with left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen, allrounder Delissa Kimmince and opening batter Beth Mooney. It doesn’t end there, however – the Heat also lay claim to two South Africans, with opening batter Laura Wolvaardt joined by new Heat recruit Sune Luus, a leg-spinning allrounder.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have revealed just one overseas player for WBBL|04 but she’s a superstar: England captain Heather Knight. She returns having spent the first two seasons with the Hobart team, before sitting out last summer to manage an injury. And you can also keep a close eye on a big name from the WBBL|03 roster, in West Indies allrounder Hayley Matthews.

Melbourne Renegades

Renegades fans will be busy trying to keep tabs on all their international stars this tournament! The Aussie squad has young trio Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham and Tayla Vlaeminck, all players who’ve made their international debuts since last summer. They’re placed in the same group as key Renegades and New Zealand players Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu, while exciting batter Dani Wyatt will be plying her wares for England before heading Down Under.

Melbourne Stars

South Africa is the place you need to look, Stars fans. They’ve got explosive opening Proteas batter Lizelle Lee in the squad for WBBL|04, alongside her compatriot Mignon du Preez. 

Perth Scorchers

Scorchers fans, you’ve got three of the best. Australia captain Meg Lanning is one of the world’s best batters and after her injury lay off last summer is champing at the bit to make an impact on the world stage. She’s backed up by teammates Elyse Villani and Nicole Bolton, who both bring plenty of excitement with the willow themselves.

Sydney Sixers

Ellyse Perry. Ashleigh Gardner. Alyssa Healy. Does it get any bigger than this Australian and Sixers trio?! Add to that South African captain Dane van Niekerk and fast bowler Marizanne Kapp, and you’ve got plenty to keep you entertained.

Sydney Thunder

Rachael Haynes and Nicola Carey lead the Australian contingent for the World T20, but it doesn’t stop there for the Thunder Nation. West Indies superstar Stafanie Taylor will again lead her team as they seek back-to-back titles, while India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur looms as the key to her team’s fortunes.
