Chris Lynn and Ben Cutting did the damage with the bat, before the red-hot Heat bowlers ended the Scorchers' unbeaten streak
Match Report:
ScorecardHeat douse Scorchers in stunning display
The score: Brisbane Heat 6-191 (Cutting 46, Lynn 39; Willey 2-40) defeated Perth Scorchers 142 (Agar 31, Willey 25; Doggett 5-35) by 49 runs
Match in a tweet: A red-hot Heat outfit end the Scorchers’ unbeaten run in #BBL07 and join them at the top of the table on four wins
The hero: Ben Cutting powered the Heat to a commanding 6-191 with a blazing knock of 46 from just 20 deliveries. Coming to the crease with the Heat 4-94 in the 13th over, Ben Cutting was dropped on one – a mistake that proved very costly for the Scorchers – and he took until the 17th over to clear the boundary for the first time, but once he got started, there was no stopping the allrounder. He smashed three sixes from one Joel Paris over and added another two maximums to his tally before finally holing out on the penultimate ball of the Brisbane Heat innings.
The support acts: The Heat bowlers backed up the efforts of their batsmen, combining in a superb display in the field. Mark Steketee (3-28) and Brendan Doggett (5-35) led the way, putting the squeeze on the Heat early and ensuring the pressure was never lifted with regular wickets. Steketee kicked things off when captured the key wicket of Michael Klinger for 15 in the fifth over, and was on a hat-trick one ball later when he removed Hilton Cartwright for a golden duck. Doggett claimed his first when he claimed the dangerous Ashton Turner (18) in the 10th over, returning at the end of the innings to take another four and seal his first BBL five-wicket haul.
The consolation effort: The tight bowling of Ashton Agar continues to be a bonus for the Scorchers. After four Big Bash matches in orange this summer, Agar has taken just two wickets, but from those 16 overs bowled he has allowed just one four and one six to be scored against him. Tonight he took the wicket of Sam Heazlett and finished with 1-22, but it could easily have been two wickets had Andrew Tye not put down Ben Cutting at square leg when the Heat allrounder was on one.
The Lynnsanity: Sent in by Scorchers skipper Adam Voges, Chris Lynn kicked off proceedings in style. He had faced 2.2 overs and scored 30 runs before opening partner Brendon McCullum had even faced a ball. Lynn brought up his 99th Big Bash six and soon made it 100, but he'll have to wait a bit longer to score No.101 after being caught by Michael Klinger after top-edging David Willey, departing for 39 off 20.
The aspiring Bash Bro: With Lynn and McCullum back in the sheds and Sam Heazlett (11) and Alex Ross (3) departing cheaply, it was left to Joe 'Not a Bash Brother' Burns to provide a much-needed boost to the Heat run rate. He delivered exactly that in the 15th over, sending three Andrew Tye deliveries over the fence and into the Gabba crowd. Burns' latest application to join the Bash Brothers came to an end when he was given out lbw on 36 off 26, but he cleared the fence three times – more than the Bash Bros put together.
The century: Chris Lynn made history at the Gabba when he became the first player to score 100 Big Bash sixes. Do yourself a favour and watch them all in just 100 seconds!
The silly point: Always keep your eyes on the ball!

The fantasy wrap: Brendan Doggett's ($26,900) five-wicket haul saw him pick up 121 points, and despite being on the losing side, Ashton Agar ($73,600) was rewarded for an impressive night with bat and ball, racking up 94 points. Mark Steketee’s ($63,500) three wickets earned him 83.
The next stops: The Scorchers return home now where they’ll prepare to host the Melbourne Renegades on Monday, while the Heat will meet the Hurricanes at the Gabba on Wednesday.
