Maxwell faces test for final T20

Allrounder set to undergo fitness test before the third T20 against Pakistan

Glenn Maxwell faces a fitness test before the final T20 against Pakistan in Dubai after hurting his hamstring while fielding.

The dynamic allrounder top-scored with a determined half-century in Friday night's game but is believed to have tweaked his hamstring in the field.

Pakistan went on to win by 11 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

It's understood the issue is minor and shouldn't affect Maxwell's availability for the ODI series against South Africa starting in Perth on November 4.

Mitchell Starc has also been picked for the ODIs after sitting out the first two T20s while nursing a tight hamstring.

Usman Khawaja is expected to be available for the first Test against India in Adelaide starting on December 6 after tearing the meniscus in his left knee during Australia's loss to Pakistan in the second Test in Abu Dhabi.

Left-arm spinner Jon Holland broke his finger while batting in the second Test but was never likely to be in the mix for national selection during the summer.

Sunday night's clash with the world's No.1-ranked T20 side represents a valuable chance for Aaron Finch's men to continue improving in difficult Asian conditions.

It could also be a confidence-booster for the group of eight T20 players who have been picked in the ODI squad to face South Africa.

Finch, Maxwell, Chris Lynn, D'Arcy Short and Alex Carey are among the players set to switch formats along with paceman Nathan Coulter-Nile, leg-spinner Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar, who was dropped for the second T20.

Vice-captain Mitch Marsh, who was omitted for the ODI tour and will instead prepare for the Test series against India by captaining Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield, says avoiding a clean sweep would be a big boost for the group.

"I think any time you get a chance to have a win, you gain momentum," Marsh said.

"It's often spoken out that playing for Australia, there's no such thing as a dead rubber. We're still playing for a lot of pride here.

"It'd be nice to get on that plane tomorrow night having won, and hopefully the one-day boys will be able to start well."
