India seamer Jhulan Goswami recognised for reaching 200 ODI wicket milestone with stamp issued
Bowler's rare delight at postage stamp
Bowlers are notorious for complaining when playing on tiny grounds, often referred to as postage stamps.
But Indian cricket superstar Jhulan Goswami may be the first to be delighted to feature on a postage stamp, after she was honoured for her on-field exploits by the nation's postal service.
India pace great Goswami became the first woman to take 200 one-day international wickets in helping her team to a series win against South Africa in February.
Goswami, who broke Australia legend Cathryn Fitzpatrick’s mark for the most ODI career wickets last year, brought up the milestone when she had South Africa opener Laura Wolvaardt caught behind for 9.
Fitzpatrick had 180 wickets from 109 matches at an average of 16.79 in a career that spanned 1993 to 2007.
"It was a very special day for me; more special because we won convincingly," Goswami told BCCI.tv after claiming her 200th scalp.
"We played very good cricket. Thanks to my family, my teammates, coaches and others that I can continue playing cricket. It is really special as whenever you achieve a milestone, you feel happy; you feel proud.
"I remember each of my 200 wickets, right from the beginning of my international career in 2002. I still remember I got Caroline Atkins out, caught in the slips. Mithali Raj was in the slip and she caught that catch.
"Whenever I bowl at a crucial time in the match and end a partnership, it becomes special for me. I cannot pick one. All the wickets are planned. Every wicket is important," she said.
Goswami then caused the Aussies issues taking 3-30 in a T20 match in Mumbai in March, and added three more wickets to her ODI tally against England in April.
She currently has 203 ODI wickets at 21.77 from 169 ODIs, as well as 55 T20 wickets and 40 from 10 Test matches.
The stamp features her photo alongside Kolkata's iconic Victoria Memorial and was unveiled earlier this month alongside former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
