Two more signings for Sixers

Greg Shipperd's side add two more players to their squad ahead of BBL|08

The Sydney Sixers have completed a big week by announcing another two signings.

Just days after unveiling teen sensation Lloyd Pope, the Sixers announced they had lured big hitter Justin Avendano and young spinner Dan Fallins to join their squad for BBL|08.

Avendano displayed his prowess when he smashed 122 from just 62 balls during a Sixers academy match earlier this week and featured for the ACT during the Toyota Futures League last summer.

Fallins is best known for the five wickets he took on his first-class debut for the Cricket Australia XI against England last year. The 22-year-old made his debut for New South Wales in the JLT Sheffield Shield this season while he also featured for the Melbourne Stars in last year’s BBL.

Fallins double dabs his way to memorable debut

Sixers coach Greg Shipperd is looking forward to welcoming the duo and believes both players can make an impact during BBL|08.

"Justin captured our attention initially through some outstanding Sixers academy performances," Shipperd said.

"Subsequently in grade cricket and Futures League he has confirmed a reputation as a very aggressive and competent clean striker of the ball."

Shipperd was just as complimentary of Fallins, who claimed two wickets against Victoria at the MCG last month and has picked up two five-wicket hauls in the NSW Premier Cricket competition for Sutherland this season while playing alongside Steve Smith.

"Similarly, we have high hopes for Dan Fallins," Shipperd said. "Dan is regarded highly and is a big spinner of the ball.

"Along with our other spinners, he provides us with great options across the extended format this season."

The Sixers still have another three roster spots to fill, with a further international player slot available should they wish to sign someone from overseas to play alongside England's Joe Denly.
