A record breaking knock of 122 not out from D'arcy Short has the Hobart Hurricanes on track against the Brisbane Heat
Short blasts record BBL score
D'Arcy Short has hammered the highest-ever KFC BBL score to power the Hobart Hurricanes to 4-179 in their clash against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on Wednesday night.
Short blasted 122 not out off 69 balls - including eight sixes and eight fours - as he also passed 400 runs for the tournament so far.
He eclipsed the previous high score of 116 set by Melbourne Stars import Luke Wright - who provided a laugh with his reaction on social media.
Well that was impressive 😳 well played D’arcy, that was pure carnage!%E2%80%94 Glenn Maxwell (@Gmaxi_32) January 10, 2018
Couldn't be happier for Short breaking my 6 year long record 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/R4cfO0YI3J%E2%80%94 Luke Wright (@lukewright204) January 10, 2018
Short's century was the first of the BBL season and social media lit up following the knock.
Well played Darcy very smart and consistent batting. 👍👍👏👏%E2%80%94 David Warner (@davidwarner31) January 10, 2018
The form batsman of the competition, Short was the only Hurricane to get going to give the visitors a fourth-straight win.
Short brought up his hundred with a six in the 19th over then hit three consecutive sixes in the final over off Mark Steketee to swing the game in Hobart's favour.
The left-hander targeted the Gabba's square boundaries, slicing fast bowler Ben Doggett over point for six and somehow sweeping the leg-spin of Mitch Swepson over the fine leg boundary.
D'Arcy Short (406) becomes just the second player to hit 400-plus runs in a single @BBL tournament. Shaun Marsh the other, with 412 back in BBL|02 #BBL07%E2%80%94 Adam Burnett (@AdamBurnett09) January 10, 2018
D’Arcy should have his own hashtag... 💣 Absolutely insane. The start of a huge career. #BBL07%E2%80%94 Trent Copeland (@copes9) January 10, 2018
The Northern Territory product skied a chance soon after passing 50, but Joe Burns couldn't hang on to it and Short's rhythm duly returned.
Burns' former Test opening partner David Warner couldn't help chiming in with a cheeky tweet after the missed chance, which proved costly for the hosts.
The innings put Short back at the top of the BBL's run-scorers and six-hitters list, following knocks of 42, 96 and 97 in the last three games.
