Tasmania storm into Sheffield Shield final

Tasmania are going to the Sheffield Shield final for the first time in five years after sealing second spot on the ladder with a 156-run victory over Victoria in Hobart.

Having not finished higher than second-bottom since their last Shield triumph in 2012-13, the Tigers stormed into the competition's showpiece event after wrapping up a comprehensive win with a day to spare on Friday.

The result sees the Bushrangers' hopes of a fourth-straight Shield title ended, with runaway ladder-leaders Queensland to meet Tasmania in next week's final starting Friday at Brisbane's Allan Border Field.

With the two sides vying for second spot on the table, the Bushrangers were bowled out for 221 in the shadows of stumps in their second innings on day three, well short of a hefty 378-run target.

Tigers quick Andrew Fekete (4-43) was the chief destroyer on Friday, taking four second-innings wickets after his career-best 6-67 in the first innings.

The right-armer was on a hat-trick after removing Marcus Harris and the dangerous Glenn Maxwell in consecutive balls, as Victoria collapsed to 4-37 in their chase.

Travis Dean (46) provided some resistance but was trapped in front by Fekete after tea.

Tailender Chris Tremain slogged his way to 45, to go with eight wickets for the match in a strong personal showing.

Earlier in the day, a career-high 80 from rookie allrounder Tom Rogers steered Tasmania out of trouble.

The 24-year-old came to the crease at 6-87 but launched a counterattack to push the host's second innings to 215.
