Pitch invader banned by CA

Play was interrupted in Perth by a fan who is set to spend a long time away from the game

The streaker who brought Optus Stadium's inaugural international match to a standstill has been slapped with a three-year ban from all Cricket Australia-sanctioned games.

The gentleman who interrupted Australia's fifth Gillette one-day international against England will be persona non-grata for all domestic and international cricket matches over the next 36 months.

“Cricket Australia takes a zero-tolerance policy against anybody looking to come to the cricket and interrupt the match by entering the field of play,” a CA spokesperson said.

“Those looking to do so will face action from the relevant police authority and be issued with a ban notice to all Cricket Australia matches.”

That ban is in addition to the $5,000 fine he will cop from the venue, the standard penalty for running onto the field of play during an international match.

Terrific Tye's high five has Aussies smiling

The pitch invader ran onto the ground during the 17th over of Australia's run chase on Sunday afternoon after Australia captain Steve Smith had worked England spinner Adil Rashid for a three to the opposite side of the playing arena.

The nude trespasser kept his distance from players from both sides, with a remark made by Stoinis picked up by the broadcast suggesting the allrounder saw the funny side of the incident.

Play was halted for a number of minutes as the streaker eluded multiple security staff before making a 'handcuff me' gesture and being tackled by authorities.

He was escorted off the field in a grey blanket.

Australia had been 2-95 at the time of the incident and while Smith departed not long after for 12 to continue his below-par series, Stoinis pushed on to make 87.
