Duo added to Prime Minister’s XI squad

A pair of youngsters from Queensland have been included to take on South Africa

Queensland duo Sam Heazlett and Blake Edwards have been added to the Prime Minister’s XI squad for next week's one-day clash against South Africa.

The pair have been included in the 12-player squad for the 50-over contest against the Proteas in Canberra on Wednesday as replacements for Victoria batter Nic Maddinson and Tasmania seamer Gurinder Sandhu.

Maddinson is nursing a hamstring complaint, while Sandhu has been withdrawn from the squad by Tasmania.

Heazlett has been in good form so far this season, with the 23-year-old finishing the JLT One-Day Cup competition as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 380 runs at an average greater than 50.

Edwards is a rookie listed Queensland quick who featured for Australia's under 19 side last year.

Ashes winners George Bailey and Chris Rogers will lead a PM's XI side that boasts a host of promising young players that includes Jack Edwards, Max Bryant, Jason Sangha and Josh Philippe.

The PM's XI will face a Proteas outfit led by Faf du Plessis and spearheaded by rapid fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada ahead of their three-match Gillette ODI Series against Australia, starting in Perth on November 4.
