Satterthwaite named player of WBBL|03

Amy Satterthwaite has capped a brilliant first season as Melbourne Renegades captain by taking out the Rebel WBBL|03 Player of the Tournament award.

New Zealand allrounder Satterthwaite, who crossed from Hobart Hurricanes to lead the team in red, spearheaded the Renegades’ climb up the WBBL ladder.

She top-scored for the team with the bat – and was ranked eighth in the league for most runs – for her 368 at 33.45.

It was her most productive WBBL season with the bat, topping returns of 238 and 323 with the Hurricanes in the first two summers.

The 31-year-old made two half centuries and was often the steadying or even game-winning influence for the Renegades through the course of the season.

Likewise, she was willing to put herself at the coal face with the ball in pressure situations, and collected 11 wickets at an average of 20.90, with an economy rate of 6.57.

Satterthwaite, who finished runner-up to Beth Mooney in last year’s award, has been a consistent high-level performer in the WBBL.

This season, she finished seven votes clear of Perth Scorchers’ captain Elyse Villani (28 votes), with Sydney Sixers’ captain Ellyse Perry (27 votes) third. Mooney and Adelaide Strikers skipper Suzie Bates were equal fourth with 25 votes.

Votes are awarded on a 3-2-1 basis by the standing umpires at the end of each match meaning a player can receive up to six votes per match.

Renegades teammate Sophie Molineux claimed the Rebel Young Gun award for the player who racks up the most umpire votes aged under 21 years old, while the Hurricanes' D'Arcy Short took out the KFC BBL Player of the Tournament Award, with Scorchers allrounder Ashton Agar the BBL|07 Young Gun.
