Blues cruise to big win in the west

Lyon claims bowling honours with four wicket as NSW complete comprehensive victory over Western Australia in Perth

Nathan Lyon has spun NSW to a 104-run victory over Western Australia in the first ever Sheffield Shield clash at Optus Stadium.

Set 317 for victory, WA were dismissed for 212 shortly before lunch on the final day.

Marcus Stoinis top-scored with 81 off 96 balls, but he had little support.

Stoinis' lone hand for Warriors

Lyon finished with 4-86 to go with his first-innings haul of 3-34, while Trent Copeland and Sean Abbott finished with three wickets apiece.

The Warriors resumed play on the final day at 6-115, and added just nine more runs before Ashton Agar (24) holed out to Lyon in the deep.

Lyon copped some punishment from Stoinis, who cracked seven fours and three sixes in his quick-fire knock.

But the Test spinner eventually got his man, with Stoinis' attempt to launch Lyon for another six falling short.

Cam Green (27) was the next to go down swinging, with Matthew Kelly (19) the final man out.

The Warriors had their top-order collapse to blame for the loss.

WA slumped to 6-64 in their run chase before Stoinis gave them the faintest of hope.

Shaun Marsh fell for a duck after his gritty 81 in the first innings, while Hilton Cartwright (8), Will Bosisto (0), Ash Turner (1), and Josh Inglis (0) also fell cheaply.

In nine Shield innings this season, WA have suffered what can be labelled a top-order collapse in eight of them.
