Match Report:
ScorecardMatch Recap: Renegades defeat Heat
The score: Brisbane Heat 8-125 (Barsby 36, Strano 3-19) lost to Melbourne Renegades 3-102 (Priest 44) in 14 overs on Duckworth-Lewis by seven wickets.
The hero: Rachel Priest flew out of the blocks for the Renegades hitting boundaries right from the outset. The captain's conscious decision to attack was pivotal in the Renegades chasing down the revised total of 102 from 15 overs. Priest's brute power was evident throughout her innings as she bludgeoned six fours and a towering six in her 39 ball innings of 44. In a small run chase Priest's innings at the top of the order was the difference between the two teams.
The support cast: Molly Strano produced a devastating opening spell with the ball to have the Heat on the ropes at 3-25 after six overs. The tall off-spinner had Kirby Short (2) caught brilliantly at first slip off only her fourth delivery. Strano's dip and overspin created all sorts of problems for the batters, as she had Jess Jonassen (6) and Beth Mooney (15) caught trying to loft the ball over the infield. Strano finished with superb figures of 4-0-19-3.
The catch: Standing at a wide first slip, Kris Britt pulled off a stunning one handed catch. The ball before had been edged between the wicketkeeper and first slip which prompted Britt to stand a fraction closer to the keeper. But the edge from Kirby Short’s bat flew high and fast to the left of Britt, who managed to snatch it with one hand.
The consolation effort: Jemma Barsby's late-order fireworks ensured the Heat were able to post a total that could possibly be defended. Coming to the crease at 6-49, Barbsy started her counter attack with couple of delightful cut shots before bringing out all type of sweep shots. The clever part of Barsby's innings was that she played her unorthodox shots according to the field to finish on 36 from 27 balls.
The next stop: The Heat will now host the Strikers at the Gabba on Friday while the Renegades travel to North Sydney Oval to play the Sixers.
