Bushrangers leave Warriors in a spin

Jon Holland and Fawad Ahmed collect six wickets between them, with the hosts finishing the day on 1-20 in reply to WA's 243

Victoria are 1-20 in reply to Western Australia's first-innings total of 243 at stumps on day one of their JLT Sheffield Shield clash at the MCG.

The Warriors won the toss and elected to bat on Sunday morning but were quickly in trouble at 2-8.

They improved to 5-154 at tea before the Bushrangers brought their innings to a close.

Finch flies to remove Wells

Marcus Harris (17 not out) and Glenn Maxwell (0 not out) will resume for the home side on Monday after Travis Dean was bowled by Jhye Richardson for three in the last over of the day.

Opener Will Bosisto top scored for the visitors with 57 but was caught by Cameron White off the bowling of Fawad Ahmed shortly before tea.

The Warriors got away to a poor start with Jonathan Wells, caught brilliantly by Aaron Finch off the bowling of Chris Tremain, and Hilton Cartwright dismissed without scoring.

Mitch Marsh helped steady the ship with a 65-run partnership with Bosisto but departed on 43 when bowled by Ahmed (3-58 from 19.5 overs).

In-form spinner Jon Holland finished with figures of 3-60 from 22 overs, while Tremain (2-35 from 15 overs) and Scott Boland (2-49 from 17 overs) chipped in with two wickets apiece.

The Bushrangers confirmed their final XI after a pitch inspection on Sunday morning, with Ahmed and allrounder Dan Christian returning to the line-up.

Former Test quick Peter Siddle was rested for the last round of Shield cricket before the Big Bash League break.

The Warriors welcomed back Ashton Agar (finger) and Marcus Stoinis (personal leave) for injured pair Jason Behrendorff and David Moody.
